Restoring Hope: The Story of Mr. Dradebo Norman

Life changed dramatically for Mr. Dradebo Norman, a 36-year-old resident of Mvara Zambia Zone, Bunyu Zone, Oringa Ward, after he lost his eyesight in 2022 following the consumption of a local alcoholic drink commonly known as City Five.

Life changed dramatically for Mr. Dradebo Norman, a 36-year-old resident of Mvara Zambia Zone, Bunyu Zone, Oringa Ward, after he lost his eyesight in 2022 following the consumption of a local alcoholic drink commonly known as City Five.

Before the incident, Mr. Norman worked as a welder, earning a living and supporting his family. However, losing his sight not only ended his welding career but also brought significant challenges to his daily life and family responsibilities. 

Mr. Norman is a father of three children. Following the incident, his wife left the family, leaving him to face the difficulties of visual impairment with limited support. Today, he relies largely on the care and assistance of his mother and the goodwill of his neighbors, who continue to stand by him during this difficult journey. 

Recognizing his need for support, NCEDI on 25th September 2026 stepped in and provided Mr. Norman with a white cane, an essential mobility aid that helps him navigate his surroundings more safely and independently. This support has given him renewed confidence and improved his ability to move around within his community.

Mr. Norman's story highlights the devastating consequences that can result from unsafe local alcoholic products and the importance of community support for persons living with disabilities. Despite the many challenges he faces, he continues to demonstrate resilience and determination, inspired by the support of his family, neighbors, and organizations like NCEDI.

Through continued assistance and inclusion, individuals like Mr. Norman can regain dignity, independence, and hope for a better future.
